Rooms and Objectives

Quality Experiences

Our philosophy is child focused, concentrating on all of the children’s efforts and achievements and observing their next steps in learning and development.

Learning through play

We support each child’s development through personally tailored teaching as part of a structured, play-based curriculum, embracing Curriculum for Excellence principles.

To enable all children to become…

  • Successful Learners
  • Confident Individuals
  • Responsible Citizens
  • Effective Contributors

At Currie Children’s nursery, our child-centred and play-based, active curriculum is founded upon the work of educational theorists and recent research on the importance of quality play provision in children’s development and learning.

We see each child as an individual who has unlimited potential to be a competent and confident learner if allowed to indulge their natural inquisitiveness and given the love of caring and responsive adults, and a carefully planned environment.

Although some activities for children in the Nursery are pre-planned, we recognise that children will learn most from free play and self-initiated games. Therefore we allocate the majority of the Nursery day for this and make observations of the children’s play and interests at each stage of their development, and evaluate what learning is taking place. These evaluations inform future planning which is responsive to the children’s interests and experiences.

Care Inspection Report

At our 2017 Inspection the Nursery was awarded ‘good’ in all areas.

The Nursery is committed to making all inspection reports available to parents and enquirers on request. Parents have always stated that they are very happy with the level of care their child receives at the Nursery

Parent comments were:

‘Good level of nursery provision with a strong emphasis on outdoor based activities’

‘In the time I have had my son at this nursery his development has come on leaps and bounds. He loves the nursery especially getting involved in the activities. I believe he has settled in brilliantly and I loved the way the nursery tried to work round the routine we have put in place for my son instead of improvising a new routine’

‘I find the Currie Nursery a good establishment. My child is very happy and really likes the staff in his room. I also find the staff very friendly and helpful if I ever need to ask questions. The staff are kind to the children and always seem to have a smile on their faces. So far I have never had a problem getting my son to go to Nursery, which makes life a lot easier!’.
